In the reading by Yi-Fu Tuan, the meaning of space and place as I understood is that we are able to define this with what human or animal needs are. For instance babies when in the fetal stage before birth they are confined in a small space thus limiting there movements and knowledge of there surrounding. After birth and as the baby grows to the infant stage they gain more skills through experience on the areas they are able to move. For example the space called a “playroom” can be defined as a learning space for infants to gain the basic knowledge of coordination, leisure, complexity of puzzles, and many others through the use of toys. Humans become gain more knowledge of surrounding by the use of there senses. In this example a place that serves the use of a faucet, stove, microwave, and other appliances we see it as a kitchen or to others who love cooking a play space which makes them happy creating and concocting dishes of sorts. This spaces and places are only seen as what we may obtain from them.

For the animals the example in which senses they use to find food, see danger, or find a home. Animals define there surrounding in my opinion through their needs. They move to areas with more food, to be away from humans and there predator, and to make a family. In an article i read about wolves, it states that wolves are very protective of their pack. They are able to tell apart from other packs by the howls and smell they produce, why is this important? It is also because it tells other wolves whose territory they are entering. wolves utilize the place they control to their advantage when hunting preys leading them to traps and ambush rather than for long the chase that may take a while to capture or lose their prey. They also use their hearing to know the distance of their pack during their ambush. Animals are very knowledgeable of their surrounding allowing them to pass or avoid danger.

This also the same for humans who use our sights to see change, our sense to smell to distinguish aroma, our ears to listen to annoyance and beauty, our senses to feel in order to know texture, pain, or pleasure, and our taste buds to distinguish disgust and exquisiteness. This are all relevant to know what space or place is being play around us. Though space is only opinionated by what we are able to sense thus disability and handicaps in our sense can also change.

In the Article “Man,Play, and Games” by Roger Callois, talks about the 4 different roles of play that take on in games, which are competition, chance, simulation, and vertigo. I look at the roles in games as if they were affected by the level of enjoyment of which a person can gain through such roles. Through the role of ‘competition,’ the aggressive and forcefulness of a game can either create a stronger feeling of enjoyment or challenge to oneself, thus increasing adrenaline and power of strength between the players. For the role ‘chance,’ the feeling of excitement and mystery of an end result that varies by not what the player does, but rather what random luck or bad luck that may alter the game. For the role ‘simulation,’ the feeling of no-bounds or limit that a player may have in a game such as of role-play can increase ones imagination of what more can be done in the game. This type of role has been the role most players used to determine originality for say. For the Role vertigo, the feeling of adrenaline or rather the out of state consciousness a person gains through various stimulation in the body from roller coaster rides to tilt-a-twirl the excitement is not of pleasure but a seek for excitement in a form that may create fear then excitement. In this matter I would agree with Callois on what roles play takes form in games.

I agree with Ken Robinson on the whole concept that education now is based on not what people aren’t meant to do, but what is offered to them. People who love drawing are sometimes afraid to become artist and do not apply there skills to what they love, but rather what they can earn. The whole concept of going after the job that you love is plainly dead in society in my view. More and more jobs require more things for you to do, some jobs don’t pay much or rather are hard to come by. Education back then meant that if you had a degree you had a job as Robinson said in a statement. But now its more of a requirement to a requirement in order to meet what is needed to be successful. Thus removing the whole creativity that drives people to do what they want in life. For example I love art I always wanted to become an artist and create a master piece that many generations can look at and read story from what I have created, but after hearing what teachers and adults have said about the real world after growing up not a lot of things can be easily obtained by just talent alone. Nobody really can just one day become an artist create something and call it art, now everything is based on the merit or status you have through education. If I were to answer that title without watching the video I would already have said a yes in a matter of second. Schools to me is a jail cell that has 4 walls and each wall represents no escape of reality, confinement, obedience of life order, and restriction. Everything has a door and the only way to get out of a door from school is either fail at life or get a piece of paper.

After Reading “Deep Play” by Diane Ackerman one can wonder what other words may have some sort of history or meaning apart from what they are used now. As explained the word ‘play’ derives from various uses, such as a tool to learn something, bring forth effort, or rather just simply to bring oneself away from everything. “The savage is what we sometimes long to be” Ackerman says by pointing out, what we are doing whilst we do this sorts of play, since it was a custom to what the Coliseum was built for, a type of play that contained the bloody sport that humans delight themselves to see. It was that barbaric feeling, that living emotion that even at the seen of blood we are not afraid of to look at it. Humans are not barbaric in a sense that we love the blood or the war, but we spoil ourselves with knowledge and experience thus enjoying what happens in certain areas in our lives. Ackerman portrays the whole concept of ‘deep play’, that everything we do is play in its own way or had lead to it in some form or way.
